Great insulation, comfortable for two

As with a solo model, insulating yourself from the cold ground is essential - a well-insulated double mat keeps both of you warm. Thickness and firmness are what make it comfortable; some models feature independent air chambers so you're not woken up by your partner's every movement, and even built-in pillows to make shared nights even better. Best suited to camping and car-assisted wild camping

A 2-person sleeping mat is heavier and bulkier than a solo one - it's best suited to car-assisted wild camping and camping, or trekking when you can split the load between you. Inflating and care

Inflate it using an inflation sack or a pump, given the larger volume involved. Avoid sharp or prickly surfaces, bring a repair kit, and dry the mat thoroughly before packing it away. Looked after properly, it'll give you many comfortable nights together, season after season. Lighter and easier to carry than you might expect with the newer models, it ensures a comfortable night's sleep for two; for ultralight solo trips, an individual inflatable mat remains the more compact option.
